Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is part of the Zingiberaceae family which included ginger.   
 
The active ingredient CURCUMIN in turmeric has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine as an anti-inflammatory and because of great antioxidant properties.
 
Turmeric is one of the key ingredients in many Asian dishes, imparting a mustard-like, earthy aroma and pungent, slightly bitter flavor to foods.   It is used as a coloring agent in many mustards and is a great addition to a healthy diet.
